An Audio Review
By Stacey is Sassy (Stacey B-Reviews)
The Dark Light of Day was grizzly, violent and dark...and I really enjoyed it. T.M. Frazier has an amazing ability to take me out of my comfort zone and show me a side to life that I never want for myself. She makes me happy to sit in my comfortable home, with my amazing husband and beautiful children knowing that the darkness she writes about, isn't part of my world. I'll take a peek-a-boo into that dark world, I just don't want to live it.

I found it really interesting to read about Jake. I met him in the King series and I was a wee bit intimidated by him. There is no way you would or could expect that the violent, unemotional man could be the same man who is in love and devoted to Abby, the main character of this story. His patience and understanding of Abby's emotional and physical scars were so sweet to read. Ok, sweet is probably not the right word when it comes to these two. See Abby is the perfect match for Jake. She sees things in a very similar way to Jake and knows that retribution and revenge sometimes need to be handled in a better way than calling the cops. It was scary how well suited they were to each other.

Now, this book is not for the feint of heart. Nearly every trigger warning you can think of needs to be attached to The Dark Light of Day. I find that I handle it a lot better knowing that before going in. My eyes are wide open to what I'll face and I can compartmentalise better the "triggers" that I'm confronted with.

In regards to the audio version...I had no problems with it at all. I was a little disappointed that the male narrator didn't have a bigger part, to be honest. His voice sent shivers up my spine...in a good way. The female narrator was really good though so I shouldn't really complain. It was easy to follow along, understand and I had no problems telling when a character changed.

I really enjoyed listening to The Dark Light of Day and would have no hesitations in listening to another story with these narrators.

I loved this book
By Ashleigh Wilson
The Dark Light of Day by TM Frazier is a prequel to the popular dark romance, King seires. It tells the story of Jake, a troubled young man running from his past and living freely, and Abby, an orphaned teenager who finds herself homeless and has a dark past that continues to haunt her. When the two meet, there’s an instant connection that triggers something within them individually that progresses throughout the course of the book. Jake provides Abby with a place to live and works to help her live the life she deserves and break free from the demons of her past. Meanwhile, Abby’s presence winds up helping Jake heal from his own demons. Together, they grow leaps and bounds until a tragic misunderstanding sends Jake away for years. When Jake returns to town in the midst of yet another grueling time for Abby, they are able to work on their communication and clear up those misunderstandings while uncovering a shocking truth that changes the direction of their lives. I loved this book. Yes, some of it was predictable and there was the whole insta-love that some people hate, but it didn’t take away from the story as a whole. It was in the details that made it worthwhile. It was very dark and very tragic, but Abby was such a warrior. She grew from being a shy victim to taking the reins of her life and fighting back with all she’s got. She ended up being a very strong lead female. Jake was likable for the most part, but there were some times that I just wanted to knock some sense into him. He redeemed himself, though. I give The Dark Light of Day 4 painfully dark stars.

Our Review from MustReadBooksOrDie
By Courtney~MustReadBooksOrDie
I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!

Shel: I LOVED THIS NOVEL. LOVED IT. The writing was fantastic. The words, Courtney, the words. I could gush lots. The story was compelling and I had lots of OH MY (edit)! moments. I'm betting that Courtney cried maybe once?!!!

Court: You know what? I didn't! It's a miracle right! But *mumbles* I came really close. Even though I didn't ugly cry...it was still an incredibly emotional story. I mean, look, Shelley is even using shouty caps! WHAT! That's right. The writing was immediately enthralling and this is a DEBUT NOVEL! WHAT! Yeah. I thought that too. It is a ridiculously well written story that sneaks up on you without you even knowing what hit you. And now I'm shouty caps'ing you...so basically you need to read this book!

Shel: I love Jake and Abby. They're both so dark and unapologetic for their darkness. Jake is grappling with some bad stuff but if it were a contest, he'd lose. Abby had some major (edit) up (edit) happen to her in this novel. I gasped at some scenes..and really, I don't do that. I'm not going to say I was shocked but I was hurt, pained, distraught, freakin' angry beyond belief..livid, really at some of the horrors she lived through. So, yeah, I love these two when they are together. They are raw and hard and vulnerable all at the same time. Good stuff.

Court: Girl couldn't catch a break. At all. It was insane the things that happened to her. But I never felt pity. I never felt sorry for her. She made her reality for herself. And you just knew if she was thinking something was too good to be true...it probably was. Abby's journey is raw, emotional and shocking. It is difficult to read, but so amazingly well written that I could not look away. I read it so fast, it was ridic.

Shel: I can see why this wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I've been leaning towards darker things lately and this had a nice balance of dark, light, and pretty, honest, and raw prose. I enjoyed every single word of this novel. Every word. I have HUGE, MAD LOVE for this writer and I'm not ashamed to say that I'll snap up everything she writes. I loved it that much. What a storyteller. I think I have a new crush...

Court: I am with you on this new girl crush. THIS is another perfect example of why we love to read. THIS, sure is very dark and twisty and OH MY GAH did that really just happen....but it is so real. It is much more real to life than some of the dark things we've read. Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows, but reading about the people who look for the sunshine anyways...makes me cry while writing a review thinking about them. How's that for a revelation?

Shelley: 5 stars
Courtney: 5 Stars
