Very well written

The programming languages known as Open Source has always
drawn much attention on me because with this programming language really amazing projects can be
developed, I got this book from a classroom mate, this
book has a lot of basics to understand in a very quick way.
Open Source, also this guide brings numerous commands and their implementations
which makes the assembly of projects easier and proper use of compilers, I
think the guide is very well written and with a semi technical language
facilitating its comprehension; on this occasion this programming book is
accompanied by one of robotics, which as seen emphasizes concepts and
theory of robotics in general, this book explains in a very simple way some
models of robots and how they can be assembled and programmed; These guidelines
will definitely help to increase your knowledge and skills in the computing
field.

excellent guide for beginners and novices

I began to see robotics in college, but the truth is that I was not understanding the teacher, so I asked for a little help and a friend recommended me this book, I can say with good base that is a wonderful guide, it contain very useful theory and also brings some information about the assembly of several models of robots, using this guide I could pass my classes and also I started to like robotics, I must say that it's an excellent guide for beginners and novices in the theme; as plus, this pack brings a wonderful programming guide of Open source which is a great programming language, very renown and known worldwide, the guide explain everything from the basics, to the methods of implementation for more advanced functions, making this guide even better and useful because is not only for beginners but also for intermediate students.

The technology has been advancing with the passage of time and today we see new things created that were difficult to imagine before. I have always been interested in this subject because I find It very exciting to do things using the technology. Robotic has been an advancement for humanity and this has been implemented in many activities done by man and they has been very supportive. My dad gave me this book to gain more knowledge on this issue. Also with this book I learned about Open Source that is a term applied to Software distributed under a license that allows the user access to the software source code and allows you to study and modify It freely, without restrictions on use. This book is very well explained by the writer that makes the reading and understanding easier.

Keri Hulme, a Maori, grew up in Christchurch and Moeraki, New Zealand. She writes, paints, and whitebaits in Okarito, Westland. Hulme has written poems and short stories; The Bone People, originally published by Spiral, a New Zealand feminist collective, is her first novel. She has also written Te Zaihau: The Windeater.

Three broken souls come together to tell an amazing story.

This book left an indelible imprint on my heart and soul. Let me say up front that, while this is one of the most creative, unique and wonderful stories I've ever read, I would not recommend it to everyone. Here's why:

1. Not only is the theme of child abuse and neglect woven throughout the story, but there are a few episodes of abuse that are described in quite intense detail. These episodes can be horrific and will likely be too much for some people, especially those who are parents of small children.

2. The writing format/style of this book is unlike anything I've ever seen. While I found it wildly unique and therefore loved it from a creative standpoint, it made the story difficult to get into and stay connected with at times.

3. The entire book is about three people--all of which can be quite unlikeable at times. I usually find it difficult to stay with a book when I don't like the characters but, though these three people all annoyed me at times, I came to love some piece of all of them (some more than others).

4. The author weaves native Maori words and phrases into the text. This isn't a bad thing, unless you are annoyed by frequently having to stop and go to the back of the book to look up words so you'll understand the context of how they're used. It took me forever to figure out that the "dictionary" was even there, so I was completely lost for the first third or so of the book and was highly annoyed that these Maori words were being used and not defined. D'oh!

All that said, this is an AMAZING journey of three broken souls who form an unusual friendship and, along the way, manage to find their way to healing. I'm at the age where not a lot of books stay with me for very long. But I read this book maybe 4-6 months ago and the feeling it left me with is nearly as fresh today as it was then. Take a leap of faith. Read this book. I'm betting that it will touch you deeply.

No Man is an Island

The Bone People is as perfect as a book can be. Although the author's stream-of-consciousnenss style may take a little getting used to for readers of more conventional books, it is as smooth as silk and never jarring. Hulme's manipulation of the third person subjective is masterful and we really come to know each of the three protagonists and feel their deep and continuous pain. Although the subject matter portrayed in The Bone People is dark and often horrendous, the writing itself is lyrical, a testament to Hulme's power as a poet. But make no mistake, The Bone People is a narrative, a superb one, and not a prose poem.
For me, The Bone People is a meditation about the destructive effects of closing oneself to others, of retreating and withdrawing so far into oneself that one is no longer capable of real communication and communion with others.
Each of the three protagonists, because of excessive pain, pain that goes beyond any words, has built and retreated into what he or she hopes will be a protective shell but finds instead a nightmare world, one that leads each to the very brink of death.
I have heard some people say they believe the ending to be trite or "tacked on." I found the ending absolutely perfect, and given each character's "trial by fire," I don't know how Hulme could have written the ending any differently and still maintained the integrity of her book.
I am sure there are many Maori legends, myths and references in The Bone People that I missed as I know little about this fascinating culture. But do not let a lack of Maori knowledge stop you from reading this superb book. It is, above all else, a wonderfully insightful character study that is rich, complex and filled with love and pain beyond measure.
I enjoy reading almost any book I choose to delve into, but few have left me with a feeling of awe. The Bone People is one that did. I am sure I will remember it for a long, long time to come. Indeed, I may never forget it. In short, I simply cannot praise it highly enough.

A lot of potential....

I gave this book three stars because I would give the first two-thirds five stars and the last third one star. Since I'm not sure how all this totals up (math being my worst subject), I'm just going to rate it at three, which seems fair enough.
The writing is fascinating, first of all: pure stream-of-consciousness with some added leaps of imagination. At first I wasn't sure about it, but following Hulme's advice in her introduction I persisted, and it was indeed like kina roe--it grew on me. Sometimes it is surreal, dreamlike; at other times earthy, even brutal. This jarring contrast is one of the qualities that makes the rhythm and flow of the writing so distinctive.
Then there are the characters: Kerewin, Joe, and Simon a.k.a. Clare a.k.a. Haimona are some of the most memorable I've ever read about. The ropes of twisted and tormented emotions which eventually bind them are conveyed with an insight into love as a thing which is multi-dimensional past reasoning. Their inner voices and heart's desires are portrayed with poignant subtlety, running together with the silent music of Hulme's prose.
The book is disturbing in its way, and often cruel, while at other times gently lyrical. Yet the two do not contradict: Hulme is portraying life's ugliest possibilities along with the most beautiful and uplifting. Together with the style of writing, this odd juxtaposition somehow works, and works well.
So what was my problem? To me, at least, the last third of the book had no connection to the rest. At a certain point events are suddenly rushed in a manner which is too contrived to be believable; it then goes a step further by suddenly introducing the reader to Maori mysticism and placing it as the central element of the work. Now, I don't mind Maori mysticism as long as the author doesn't introduce it all of a sudden at the end as a plot device. That this was all somehow a plot of the divine powers-that-be did no justice to the very human characters and emotions which had hitherto been the driving force of the story. The kamatua, his stories and his dreams seemed like the author was taking a very unrealistic easy way out rather than introducing more depth. The kamatua himself is no more than a plot device, rather than a full-fleshed character; his death meant less than nothing to me, and the discovery of the idol even less than that. It's as if all the vital threads which held the story together were suddenly snapped, to be replaced by a foreign element which had nothing to do with matters at hand. The three characters I had come to care about so much were left hanging--and ultimately, they petered out.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an original, thoughtful read--with the stipulation that the ending is disappointing. The book should be read for the experience, regardless of its destination.

About the Author
Marylene Cloitre, PhD, is the founding director of the Institute for Trauma and Stress at the New York University Child Study Center, and the Cathy and Stephen Graham Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Lisa R. Cohen, PhD, is a Research Scientist with the Social Intervention Group at the Columbia University School of Social Work. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice in New York City, specializing in the treatment of complex trauma disorders.

Karestan C. Koenen, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Society, Human Development, and Health and Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. She is also an experienced clinician, specializing in empirically validated treatments for PTSD.

Using It Already

As a therapy grad student, I purchased this book because it was on the recommended list for a class I am taking on Adult Trauma Interventions. Even though the class has not yet begun, I have started Phase I from Treating Survivors of Childhood Abuse with two new complex trauma clients I'm seeing. Already I am seeing the benefits. The text is well-written, easy to understand, and comes with handouts for clients at the end of the chapters. I would recommend this book to anyone working in the counseling field.

This book has a great deal of insight into the difficulties that abuse survivors experience. I have not found any other book to be as informative about this issue.

I have not finished reading this book, but i find it very helpful and informative. The work appears theory driven with good empirical support. It is a pleasure to read, well-organized. This will be one I go back to and one that I apply in my clinical practice.

Moet, Chardonnay....how about giving me some hard liquor

B.M. Hardin did not disappoint me. I don't know if she'll every disappoint her readers. The cover was catchy with not all the extra stuff. Secrets lies, drama, alibis, suspense, and all the trifling things in between. Just when you thought you knew everything about these people guarantee to be shocked and fooled. Moet played her cards but was slow when came to dealing her hand. The side chick? The main chick? Feelings? What's really going on would be your next question. Moet was my favorite she is sticking by her guy but hopefully everything come together in part 3. She has so much drive to understand what's going on around her and she will not give up. Drake will make you wanna slap every guy you know by that name. Kane is exactly what you think of when you hear that name....EVIL. I'm just dying to see what's going to happen in part 3 because I don't wanna guess and be dead wrong. This book will have your face hurting from all the expressions you will make...pissed, happy, laughing, and clinching your teeth. A real roller-coaster ride. 1 click and enjoy this thriller

This book just came out and I finished it. It was great. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I felt bad for Moet.The loss she suffered was heartbreaking. And what was going on with her sister couldn't have helped. She just couldn't catch a break. Family will hurt you quicker than a stranger. And dont get me started on Dray the lies keep coming. I didn't really hate Jinx even though she did some things that were childish,and I was sorry for what happened to her. The book was really great and I am pretty sure everyone will enjoy it.I can't really say what I want cuz it will spoil it for everyone. Now I have to sit back and wait patiently for the third book.

It’s not easy for an author to produce a story that entails an excessive amount of drama in a good way. There is a thin line and it can easily become poorly written and sloppy/messy, however this book was far from that. It seems like Moet could not catch a break. So many more secrets and back-stabbing are revealed in this installment. I wanted for her and Drake to make it but he seems to be keeping a lot from her as well. I can’t believe there will be more and hope we do not have to wait too long. This is a great urban suspense read.

So-So

Not a bad book - too technical at times and esoteric at other times. After reading this and Gait Analysis: an introduction, there was no comparison. The Whittle book KO'ed this one. I did buy this for a reference and use it occasionally.

Well worth reading

There are a number of books that cover the field of Clinical Gait Analysis and they all have their merits, but this books stands apart from the crowd because it asks the reader to think about the questions instead of just accepting the standard answers. Unlike many books, this one covers both the technical and mathematical issues, as well as discussing the clinical interpretation of the data. I find it an invaluable reference volume for those simple questions like "How do I calculate step length?" that seem easy - until you try and calculate, and then generate reproducible results, from raw data in a way that works for both normal subjects and clinical subjects.

The equipment and technology described in the book is a little dated now (the book was published in 2006) but the subject that the book addresses has not changed - it's a worthy addition to the bookshelf of anyone working in any Clinical Gait Analysis field.

Regular expressions, part of a healthy breakfast

Pocket references are not meant to teach you anything from the beginning, but to be everyday references in known and new environments. In other words, if you don't know regular expressions, then go to "Mastering Regular Expressions". If you're still here, then you'll get a cheat sheet on steroids for languages ranging from bug-prone JavaScript to the King and Queen of robustness, Perl and Python. Although everything claims to be PCRE these days, particular examples in every language available is a plus for anyone. A must for any type of user input validation.
