This was my textbook in my undergrad and which I cherish having around me. Gives a comprehensive treatment of kinematics uptill the level demanded for a practising mechanical engineer.

Great kinematics, poor everything else

When it came to the other sections of the book, it seemed to lack much information. a prime example is in the gears section. if you did not read the book in chronological order, you would not understand later chapters. example if you were interested in worm gears, and you didn't read the spur gears section you would be completely lost. For this reason i would say it does not make a good book for reference as it may not be clear if you will need to do some hunting later.

Beyond the kinematics i would recommend RL Norton's book for machine designing.

Bought this for an engineering class and I would not recommend this book. The book describes basic theory but does not teach the reader how to solve useful problems. I would suggest using the internet to find other more useful resources.

About the Author

Carl Lavery teaches Theatre and Performance at Aberystwyth University, UK. His publications include Jean Genet Politics and Performance, with Clare Finburgh (2006), Sacred Theatre (2007), Walking, Writing and Performance: Autobiographical Texts by Dee Heddon, Carl Lavery and Phil Smith (2009), The Politics of Jean Genet's Late Theatre: Spaces of Revolution (2010), Contemporary French Theatre and Performance, with Clare Finburgh (2011), Good Luck Everybody. Lone Twin: Journeys, Performances and Conversations, with David Williams(2011), and the is he editor with Nick Whybrow of a special issue of Performance Research 'On Foot' (2012).

Clare Finburgh is a senior lecturer in the department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies at the University of Essex, UK. He research focuses on French and UK contemporary performance, notably innovations in French modern and contemporary playwriting and directing; and representations of conflict in UK theatre. She has co-written Jean Genet (with David Bradby, 2011), and co-edited Genet: Performance and Politics (2006) and Contemporary French Theatre and Performance (2011).

About the Author
Conway graduated from Georgia Tech with two engineering degrees (aeronautical). He served seven years with the NACA/NASA research agency, primarily at the Ames Laboratory in California and at headquarters in Washington. Conway left NASA to become director of the Southern Association of Science and Industry. Conway founded the prestigious International Development Research Council, and the World Development Federation and has served as its first chairman. As such, he has presided over global conferences in Honolulu, Barcelona, Singapore, San Francisco, Paris, Osaka, and Madrid.

Great Overall View of Tudor Enjoyments

In studying the Tudor era for my character role in a local Renaissance Faire, I ran across this book by Alison Sim during a search. It's a wonderful book divided into various chapters centering on separate items which made up Tudor enjoyments. Chapters in the book include clothing, architecture, reading, dancing, theatre, and hunting & games, to name a few. Ms. Sim's writing is not the least bit dry and makes the facts enjoyable to read about. It's a must for anyone like me who is studying the time period to improve upon their faire or SCA persona as well as to add to their knowledge in general.

What was it like?

This is a bit scholarly but I love it - it TELLS you what went on! Each chapter deals with a different subject in detail, but easy reading Not a fluff piece, which some people might not like, but still not dull or stuffy. Very informative for those who really want to know what it was like!
